Music has power, influence, and sway. I've always been a dreamer, desperately seeking beauty in my surroundings and in the souls of those I meet. It is not surprising, then, to see how my dreamer's soul would be influenced by the melodies and lyrics that have touched my life. One song I remember from my childhood is "My Blue Heaven". It was written/composed in 1924 by George A. Whiting and Walter Donaldson (lyrics/music). It made a deep impression on my young mind and heart, and I knew just the sort of home I would one day create.
When whippoorwills call and evening is nigh,
I hurry to my Blue Heaven.
A turn to the right, a little white light,
Will lead me to my Blue Heaven.
I hurry to my Blue Heaven.
A turn to the right, a little white light,
Will lead me to my Blue Heaven.
I'll see a smiling face, a fireplace, a cozy room,
A little nest that nestles where the roses bloom;
Just my honey and me, and baby makes three,
We're happy in my Blue Heaven.
A little nest that nestles where the roses bloom;
Just my honey and me, and baby makes three,
We're happy in my Blue Heaven.
You know I'm gonna see a smiling face, a fireplace, a cozy room,
A little nest that nestles where the roses bloom;
Just my honey and me, and baby makes three,
We're happy in my Blue Heaven.
A little nest that nestles where the roses bloom;
Just my honey and me, and baby makes three,
We're happy in my Blue Heaven.
The image this song creates in the mind is simple, yet compelling. We see images of light and nature and love. There is a sweet happiness, a sense of wholeness and completeness. These impressions have guided me much of my life, and though my dear husband and I have more than "three", we have found our own Blue Heaven.
We are entering a new and exciting time in our lives as we begin to plan our dream home. We love the neighborhood that we currently live in, and we have the opportunity to possibly build the house of our dreams here. We have made an offer on an older, unmaintained home. If all goes well, we will be able to take it down and build on the lot. Prayers are welcome that all goes as we desire.
